Skull & Shackles - LIP

The Wormwood
Rude Awakenings - Session 1

Welcome to the Sweet Trade

Eileen Sankofa comes to her senses, she is laying against the hard floor and all is dark around her. She still feels swaying as if she were still drunk from the night before and hears a rhythmic creaking noise.

She remembers spending the night at the Formidably Maid, having a good time with lots of songs, the aroma of stewed meat, and above all, lots of spicy rum. The swaying does not abate and she finds she has a pounding headache, clearly she had had too much to drink. She hears rustling beside her and figures there are more people beside her in the same situation.

Before she, or anyone else, has time to even stand up, a door bursts open and a harsh light pierces her eyes. Several pairs of heavy footsteps gather around them. As her eyes start adjusting, Eileen sees the others in the room, there are three others lying on the floor beside her and seven pirates standing around the four of them. Eileen vaguely remembers seeing the others, lying on the floor, in the tavern, a male half-orc, a male human with a tattoo of a rising wave and a female dwarf.

Of the pirates, six of them carry saps but one of them stands out, probably the leader of the group, he is sneering at the four lying on the floor, he has a braided beard and a mouth full of gold teeth. He is tall and thin, his long coat and heavy boots failing to give an impression of strength or bulk. He is carrying a whip and he starts looking over the group, his expression changing to one that could be mistaken for pain, yet it is clearly an attempt at a smile. He cracks his whip in the air and yells:

Still abed with the sun over the yardarm? On your feet, ye filthy swabs! Get up on deck and report for duty before Cap’n Harrigan flays your flesh into sausage skins and has Fishguts fry ye up for breakfast!

Eileen, and the three others quickly stand to their feet, looking for their equipment, yet failing to find much of value. Eileen finds her set of Masterwork Thieves tools and she notices some of the others find some small trinkets. Eileen worries about her donkey, all that she has left from her family, what has happened to it and if it is ok.

Eileen and the others choose to go quietly along, being escorted up onto the main deck. On the way, Eileen notices, in what she believes is the middle hold, the feed she had recently bought for her donkey. She also notices an aftertaste of oily nutmeg on her tongue, hearing the dwarf mutter under her breath, “… Taggit Oil … spicy rum …”.
